One Year Anniversary Date for Sarah and Michael

One Year Anniversary Date for Sarah and Michael

For my one year anniversary with my boyfriend who has muscular dystrophy and needs wheelchair assistants, we planned a date to the World of Coke in Atlanta, Georgia.  After we go to World of Coke, we have dinner plans at Ruth’s Chris Steak House, and we will be following dinner with a lovely evening at the Hyatt Hotel in Atlanta.  For our date, I will be evaluating the physical environment and analyzing eight key concepts that will help me understand the physical environment-behavior relationships of the date places we have planned.

Place of Activity: World of Coke

Place of Dinner:  Ruth’s Chris Steak House

Place of Privacy: Hyatt Hotel in Atlanta

Accessibility:  The World of Coke had a very spacious auditorium which led to different exhibits within the Coke center.  They had elevators available for movement within the different levels of attractions.  The Hyatt hotel was very accessible and had multiple eases of movement within the location.  The front desk was wheelchair accessible to Michael and the rooms meet our disability needs.

Activity:

The Activity inside the World of Coke was busy, but comfortable because of the tall ceilings which made the area feel bigger.  The intensity of all the Coke art work made the environment feel fun and engaging.  The intensity of Ruth’s Chris Steak House was relaxing and calm.  The restaurant was full, but made to feel intimate with the peaceful music and dim lighting.

Adaptability:

Wheelchairs were available to rent at the beginning of the Coke tour.  The different parts of the World of Coke were adaptability to hold large crowds or able to be used comfortably with a smaller number of people.  Ruth’s Chris had a roomy restaurant design, but was adaptable to large crowds.  Table could have been moved with ease to make room for a large party to eat together. The Hyatt hotel gave us a room that was organized for wheelchair access which includes a peephole that was at eye level.  We could have moved chairs around to accommodate a large environment if we felt necessary.

Comfort:

The chairs and space was inviting to become a part of in the movie places of the Coke Tour.  The colors of the Coke art and displays were pleasurable. This made the environment feel comfortable to look at and what to learn more about.   The restaurant we chose to eat at, Ruth’s Chris, was comfortable to have an enjoyable meal at together.  The environment provided comfortable seating and large enough tables to eat at with ease.  The bathroom at the Hyatt hotel was very wheelchair friendly and offered a facility that made bathroom tasks easy to accomplish.

Legibility:

The World of Coke had numerous signs for exits, elevators, events, and advertising.  The Ruth’s Chris Steak house was light with dim lights and that made finding the restroom harder because it was hard to see the signs. The Hyatt hotel was very well labeled and signed for people who are new to the environment, and also people who have visual impairments.  The signs had braille symbols and were large enough to be read.

Privacy:

The place of activity we attended offered little privacy because it was the World of Coke.  It was a social environment not meant to provide a sense of privacy.  The privacy part of the date was found at Ruth’s Chris Steak House and at the Hyatt Hotel.  The restaurant had a private seating area in the corner with dim lights and minimal outside people interactions.  We were able to have a private conversion without being heard by others.  The Hyatt hotel provides accommodations for privacy because of our individual room.

Sensory Stimulation:

Our visual sensors were on overload at World of Coke.  The environment was elaborately designed to be visually stimulating and interesting.  The architecture was bold and gave a good balance for the fun art through the tour.  The World of Coke offered another sensory experience when they allowed everyone to taste the different cokes that are sold all over the world.   At Ruth’s Chris we experienced the opposite sensory stimulation; we found the environment to have a sensory deficit.  The calming dim lights actually made the environment dull.  After we left the restaurant it took a couple of minutes to readjust to the sunlight.

Sociality:

The World of Coke was a fun time that offered an environment that facilitated interacting with other people.  The social interaction was triggered when everyone was given the chance to try Cokes from all over the world.  It was intriguing to share your opinions on the tastes of the different Coke drinks and hear other people share their experience.

What a lovely date together :)
